Holidays
This is the last week for training in 2023 as there is no cadets next week (21 Dec 23).
We will resume 18 Jan 24 for all cadets. Senior Cadets (Level 5) and Staff will be meeting 11 Jan 24.
From all of our staff and the SCC we wish you all a happy, warm and safe holiday season and a well-deserved break.
Quick note: Moving forward confirmation emails for activities will no longer be the default. Instead, emails will be sent to the signed-up cadets who are unable to come because of capacity reasons and if there are cancellations.
Events and Activities

Regular Training
Participants: All Cadets
Date: Thursday, 14 Dec 2023
Time: 1830-2115 hrs
Location: 5 Brouillette Blvd, Nepean, ON K2K 2W6
Dress:
C5, Field Training Uniform (FTU); or
Appropriate civilian attire (example: black pants, white shirt or polo, black shoes);
Note on Footwear: If you don’t have the FTU boots, cadets can wear an alternate pair of black shoes or boots.
Reminder: Bring a jacket (issued or civilian) for travelling to and from buildings.
Mess Dinner & Training Day
Description: Cadets will participate in a training activity, focusing on key cadet skills. Later, we will host a semi-formal dinner, following Mess Dinner traditions.
Dress: Casual civilian clothes appropriate for the weather.
What to bring:
Formal wear (in order of priority)
C2 Mess Dress (C1 with a black bowtie and white shirt). Formal dresses are approved as well.
C1 Ceremonial Dress
Black pants, black shoes, white shirt, bowtie (or any other formal dress available to the cadet) Note A cadet will not be restricted from attending this event due to a lack of available dress items
Your beret and C1 boots (if issued) for the cadet skills portion of the day.

Participants: All Cadets who have filled out the form.

Biathlon (Rifle Practice)
Participants: All cadets interested in trying out

Date: Sat, 16 Dec 23
Time and Location: 0730-1300 at Camp Fortune. Cadets attending the Mess Dinner can leave at 1100 to make it to Cannaught in time.
Dress: Sporting attire appropriate for the weather including a hat. Cadets not dressed appropriately will be sent home.
Material to bring:
a water bottle
Snacks and a healthy lunch

Band (Virtual)
Participants: All cadets interested in playing in the band
OPI: Warrant Officer Driscoll

Time: 1300 - 1600 hrs
Location: Online
Dress: blue squadron t-shirt, or black bottoms and white top
Material:
a musical instrument;
If you don't have one, see WO Driscoll on Thursday during training to sign one out.

Winter FTX (Save The Date)
The Zone Winter FTX will be taking place February 16-18, 2024. We are one of many cadet units participating. While we don't have all the answers yet we do know we'll have some spots for cadets aged 13 -16 with some senior cadet leaders as well. We will be getting more information in the new year.
Cadet Correspondent Course
The English version of the Cadet Correspondent Course will be held virtually on Tuesday evenings from 6 Feb to 5 March 2024.
Interested cadets must demonstrate an interest in photography, videography, social media management, journalism and interest in being a cadet correspondent at the squadron and local activities.
Open to levels 3 and above

Food Drive
This is the last week we for the food drive for the Kanata Food Cupboard. We ask that you bring what you're able to the Canteen where the SSC will collect the donations.
What to bring:

Fundraising - Air Cadet 50/50
The Holiday Annual Holiday Campaign is here!
Parents, guardians and friends (18+) can help support our Squadron and Air Cadets nationwide by purchasing 50/50 tickets. There are many draws between now and the holidays. For more information and to purchase tickets visit this link.
Bottle Drive
706 would be happy to take wine/beer bottles after the holiday season. They can be dropped off at 1 Brouillette on Thursdays.
Heated Washroom Facilities
A heated washroom trailer is now available for use by everyone located between 2 and 4 Lewis Gun.
This trailer will remain in place for use until the end of April 2024.
Administration:
Annual Validation:
The Annual Validation Forms are an important part of how we keep all our cadet activities safe for all participants, and the safety of all our cadets is the top priority.
Annual Validation Forms were due Oct 5, 2023.
Starting Dec 1, 2023, the cadets who have not submitted their forms are no longer able to join us for any cadet activity until they do so.
Code of Conduct:
The Cadet Code of Conduct outlines how we expect our cadets to conduct themselves during all cadet activities. It ensures that each cadet has a safe and inclusive environment for their development.
All forms were to be completed and returned to CI Moy by Oct 19, 2023.
Absences: If you are unable to make it to training, fill out this form before your planned activity to be marked as excused.
Cadet365 Accounts:
Get help: Cadets should contact Administration Officer CI Ed Moy if they are experiencing issues.
Newly Registered Cadets: They will automatically receive their account information at the email address on file once they are created.
Supply
CI Burke will advise cadets on Thursday if they have a uniform to pick up.

Drivers

Due to limited space and lighting at Connaught, please follow the parking flow map and instructions below:
Enter via Vickers Gun Rd, then turn left on Brouillette Blvd
Drop-off/pickup occur on Brouillette Blvd after Lewis Gun Rd (near squadron HQ).
For pickup at the end of the night, park in the parking lot (not on Brouillette Blvd). Use caution when exiting the parking lot.
IMPORTANT: Exercise caution and patience when driving in this area, as there are many cadets in the parking lot.
Exit via Sir Sam Hughes Rd
Drivers are reminded to slow down.
Posted speed limits at Connaught:
50 km/h on Malibar Blvd,
30 km/h in all other areas.
Speed limits are strictly enforced by Military Police.
