Recruit Night and Regular Training

  1. Participants: All Cadets, Recruits and Parents of Recruits

  2. Date: Thursday, 19th September 2024

  3. Locations/Time: 

    1. Returning Cadets: Opening parade as normal in 5 Brouillette Blvd, Nepean, ON K2K 2W6

      1. Time: 1830 - 2115 hrs

    2. Recruits and their parents please be seated for 1915 in 5 Brouillette Blvd, Nepean, ON K2K 2W6.

      1. Note: Our opening parade is from 1830-1855 for attendance and inspection. We ask that you wait in your cars until 1905 to allow our cadets space to make their way to the classrooms in other buildings.

  4. Dress:  

    1. C5, Field Training Uniform (FTU); or if none

    2. Appropriate civilian attire ( i.e. black pants, white shirt or polo, black shoes)

  5. Note on footwear: If you don’t have the FTU boots, cadets can wear an alternate pair of black shoes or boots with either uniform. 


Gliding

  1. Who: Open to all cadets (selections will be made)

  2. Date: Sun, Sept 29 and Sun Oct 6

  3. Timing: 0800-1700hrs

  4. Pick-up/Drop-off: Connaught Range, 1 Brouillette Blvd, Nepean, ON K2K 2W6

  5. Transportation: School bus from Connaught Range to CFS Smiths Falls.

  6. Meals: Cadets are to bring their own snacks/meals:

  7. Dress:

    1. Appropriate civilian attire

      1. dress for the weather and physical activity.

  9. Notes:

    1. Priority will be given to cadets selected to go to the cancelled weekend last October and junior cadets.

    2. Due to limited spots, confirmations will be sent to selected cadets a couple of days before the activity. The remainder will be placed on a waiting list.

    3. Gliding is weather dependent and can be cancelled up to the morning of the activity.


Band

  1. Who: Open to all interested cadets

  2. Date: Monday, Sept 23, 2024

  3. Timing: 1900-2100hrs

  4. Location: Connaught Range, 5 Brouillette Blvd, Nepean, ON K2K 2W6

  5. Dress: Civilian attire

  6. Instruments:

    1. Cadets that have their own instruments (brass and reed) should bring them

    2. Instruments can be provided to cadets interested in joining who do not have one.

  7. Questions can be directed to Master Warrant Officer Driscoll.


Fall FTX

Our Fall FTX (Field Training Exercise) is a fun learning-filled weekend for all cadets. Cadets will learn and practice survival skills. Over the weekend, cadets will build a sense of camaraderie with their peers and their own self-confidence.

  1. Date/Time: Fri October 11 at 1800 - Sun October 13 at 1530

  2. Drop off/Pick Up Location: 5 Brouillette Blvd, Nepean, ON K2K 2W6

    1. Cadets will be bussed to/from SAJO for the weekend

  3. Deadline: Sign up here by Tues October 8 at 1800

Cyber Security Challenge

We are looking for up to 6 tech-savvy cadets who are interested in being on our first-ever Cyber Challenge team.

  1. Duration: The stages happen periodically all year with practices starting in October and finals happening in May.

    1. We will meet in person on some Thursdays during the third period.

  2. Equipment: Cadets must have access to a compatible computer. Most modern computers (at least 8GB RAM) will work.

    1. Expensive gaming computers are not required.

    2. Chromebooks, tablets, and some ultra-lightweight laptops are not capable of running the competition's software.

The Poppy Project

We are looking for crafty cadets who wish to provide their crotchet skills for a poppy wreath that will be donated to the local legion for Remembrance Day.

  1. When: We will meet in person optionally on Thursdays during the third period from October 2 - November 6.

    1. Once you receive the pattern, yarn will be provided for you to crotchet poppies at home and we will all meet on November 6 to finish putting it together.

  2. What to bring: 

    1. Your crotchet hooks (yarn will be provided)

Advanced Leadership Program (ALP) intro + NCM Development Day

  1. Who: Participating Senior Cadets

  2. When: September 21st at 0800 and finishing the 22nd at 1600 at Rideau Hill Camp (3560 Rideau River Rd, Manotick, ON K4M 1B4)

  3. Dress: C5 (FTUs)

  4. What to bring: 

    1. Note-taking material

    2. Snacks 

    3. Filled water bottle

    4. Appropriate overnight kit for one night (you'll be sleeping in cabins)

Air Cadet Young Aces 50/50 (It's Back!)

  1. Bring your spare change, purchase a snack and support 706.

  2. Your snack cravings directly support cadet activities.


Letter to Parents-Guardians from the Squadron Sponsoring Committee


Administration:

  1. Absences: If you are unable to make it to training, fill out this form before your planned activity to be marked as excused.

  2. Cadet365 Accounts:

    1. Get help: Cadets should contact the Administration Officer if they are experiencing issues.

    2. Newly Registered Cadets: They will automatically receive their account information at the email address on file once they are created.


Supply

  1. CI Stevens will advise cadets on Thursdays if they have a uniform to pick up.

  2. To make a uniform request please fill out this form.

  3. Note for recruits: You can take your measurements at home (directions in the form). If you don't have access to a measuring tape, we can measure you for you to submit the request. These can take a couple months to be given out as we have limited in-house supply and order the rest.

  4. For the 2024/25 fiscal year: New cadets will not be issued the blue uniform unless the are joining as level 3. This was a nation-wide directive.


Drivers

Due to limited space and lighting at Connaught, please follow the parking flow map and instructions below:

  1. Enter via Vickers Gun Rd, then turn left on Brouillette Blvd

  2. Drop-off/pickup occurs on Brouillette Blvd after Lewis Gun Rd (near Squadron HQ).

  3. For pickup at the end of the night, park in the parking lot (not on Brouillette Blvd). Use caution when exiting the parking lot.

  4. IMPORTANT: Exercise caution and patience when driving in this area, as there are many cadets in the parking lot.

  5. Exit via Sir Sam Hughes Rd


Drivers are reminded to slow down.

  1. Posted speed limits at Connaught:

    1. 50 km/h on Malibar Blvd,

    2. 30 km/h in all other areas.

  2. Speed limits are strictly enforced by Military Police.
